Counting starts at one. It is a perfect starting position to start the most popular game on the internet; dating, you need as much as yourself. That is, if you are a single and looking for a date.

With two, just having met a date, most (real) problems start. Most games start with two (players). We all know about the universal dichotomies of black and white, left and right, right and wrong. The number two provides a very simple (and therefore) powerful system to categorize … differences.

Three is also used to model the real world, for example by Treacy and Wiersema, known for their "value disciplines" which are: operational excellence (1), product leadership (2), or customer intimacy (3).

Four is used quite often in models. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator for example results in an overview of sixteen types, but four (dominant) types form the core of the model.

Seven is abundantly available. The seven habits of highly effective people (S. Covey) for one. But think also about the top7 lists that fill the internet everywhere. Seven appears to be a magic number. But scarcely used in models.

Eight. Belbin, for example, uses the number eight to present different team roles; the Implementer, Shaper, Investigator, Plant, Team worker, Coordinator, Monitor and the Completer (The ninth role, the specialist is left out because it was added later) In fact the basis for the Belbin team role concept consist again of only four main characteristics (thinking, doing, feeling and willing)

Nine – The Enneagram uses nine types; The Perfectionist, The Giver, The Performer, The Romantic, The Observer, The Loyal Skeptic, The Epicure, The Protector and the Mediator.

Selecting a preference is not about the merits of each individual model. You should choose one that fits a real requirement or you might stick to using one you already are familiar with and if it serves your goal.

My own preference is to use models that apply less than seven types. Seven may be a magical number, but will make models complex. It is said that seven is the maximum number of items your are able to memorize on the short term, a fact that contributes to this complexity.
One, on the other end, is not an option either — this would result in a model describing everything. Two is for children to distinguish only between good and evil. So a real model start with at least three options. And between three and six, I intuitively go for an even number with the least number of possibilities. Four.

Winning and high-performing companies share the belief that their core asset is the
people who have the knowledge, skill and experience. Maximizing the value of those

Competitors can catch up on core competencies. Benchmarking and reengineering may
put them on the cutting edge. But only dedicated individuals can continuously produce
new, creative and exciting ideas that allow a company to reinvent itself, manage its selfrenewal
process, and foster a true learning organisation. Yet, many companies still fail to
use the right management and leadership strategies to motivate and retain their staff.

Creative talent, while arguably the most prized asset for any corporation, is probably also
the most unrealized. Creative people are thought to be nonconformist, unpredictable, selfabsorbed
and therefore difficult to manage. Because many organisations are filled with
conformists who tend to like other conformists, the frustrations and limitations of such
stifling organisations drive creative people out. Therein lies the organisation's loss.
Attracting, developing and keeping maverick talents are a major challenge to any leader.

and firing of the people the first instance the company is in financial difficulty.
Operating budgets are slashed on training and development. Employees can clearly see
that the actions of the management action do not support the words. These CEOs got it
all wrong. They should be hard on performance but soft on people.

When Richard Branson nominates his people as Virgin's greatest asset, he points adroitly
to something that gives a corporation a long-term, inimitable competitive edge: the
creative talent of its individual employees. He believed that loyal employees in any
company create loyal customers who in turn create happy shareholders.
In 1993, Branson gave a speech to the British Institute of Directors. His audience no
doubt expected to be amused. Instead, the speech began: "Let me share with you the
philosophy behind our experiences at Virgin. The basic principles are 'People matter'.

When interviewed on Virgin's key success factors, Branson replied: " I'm absolutely
certain that it is a question of the kind of people you have, the way you motivate them.
I'm sure that is what can make any company successful. If you can motivate your people,
you can get through bad times and you can enjoy the good times together. If you fail to
motivate our people, your company is doomed not to perform well. I find that I spend a
lot of time trying to concentrate on motivating. Part of Virgin's management philosophy
is based on the fundamental belief that the individual is all-important in our company."
Sam Walton, the founder of Walmart took five hours at the shareholders' meeting to
individually thank his four thousand excellent performing staff. Subsequently, he would
invite them all to his home. Proctor & Gamble treated its staff as family members. All
these top and successful companies truly recognise their people's contributions to the
success of their companies.

Boulton, Richard E S et al said: "In 1978, on average, book value represented 95% of
market value, while 10 years later it was 28%. Today, it is estimated that 80% of stock
value is driven from assets that do not appear on the balance sheets, assets like people,
brands, knowledge and relationships."

The issue relating to company is usually the "what and how" but rather than the "who".
This is the wrong emphasis. It is no use having all the correct strategies and resources
when you do not have the right people to do the job. To compete successfully externally,
you need to have people perform successfully internally.

A lot of people these days are interested in getting their own place on the world wide web. Whether itґs a personal site like a blog, or a business site, they all need to have a decent plan before they get started.

A few years ago I started designing and creating websites myself. I started just to show off to others, but I noticed it wasn't as easy I thought it was. I mean, it is easy to get a site online; you just buy a template, pay a coder, and pay some one to insert content and advertise for you then you're done. But if you want to do things yourself, that's where it gets tricky.

After a few sites, I managed to find a certain pattern in the process of creating and managing my websites.

1. I always start with an idea for subject and content. Believe me - never create a website about something you hate and know nothing about. Instead create a website about something you know a lot about and like to tell other people about. What also works is writing about a subject you would like to know more on, after doing your own research. Newbies can explain information to other newbies easier then proґs explaining information to newbies.

2. Then I think of a design to go with it, to reflect its idea. Like if your subject is Boats, then don't go with a flaming red design. Sure it could do it, but I would prefer for a blue, water-like design to reflect its subject.

Networking events provide an effective way to meet and connect with potential clients. What you need to do when you attend these networking events, though, is quickly determine if the person you are talking to is a “sweet spot” client.

Is this person part of your small business target market?
Is he or she a decision maker or influencer?
Does this business have the potential to become a regular, long-term client?

To get these answers you need to work the room at a networking event efficiently and productively.

“Working” A Networking Event

At networking events you want to talk to people that own or manage a small business. These are the people who have potential to become your sweet spot clients. At the very least, the people you talk to at these networking events should work in, or for, a small business

When you connect with a person who fits the small business criteria, ask some subtle questions to determine if he or she meets the sweet - spot profile. Questions to ask people at networking events include:

What kind of systems do you have?  Do folks use a lot of computers at your office?  Do you have a network?  What kind of network do you have?  How many people are on the network?

The answers to these questions will help you lead the discussion and give you a lot of great insight as to where to go next.

The next step is to determine if you are talking with the appropriate person in the organization. A good question to ask for this purpose is, What kind of systems do you use?” If they can answer the question then you can be fairly certain they are a decision maker or are close enough to the decision maker to be an influencer. Asking these types of questions at networking events helps you determine if you should push further or walk away.

The Bottom Line on Networking Events

Networking events offer a short window to connect with as many potential clients as possible. You want to use your time at these networking events wisely. By asking direct and specific questions you can quickly determine the sweet - spot potential of the people attending the networking event. If there is potential, then follow-up questions to determine if the person you are talking to is a decision maker or influencer are in order. If not, then you can be confident in your decision to say good bye and move on.

A college student, whom right now spends a mere two dollars on a set of Christmas lights for his dorm and sends Christmas cards to his parents, will someday fork out thousands to light up his business chain every season, and take his parents out for a hundred dollar meal at the most beautiful and fancy restaurant in town.

Thus, Christmas traditions evolve along with the people that keep them. Next holiday may call for a completely different schedule than this one. But never fear, this time of year can never be dull or lacking in joy, if you find ways to give and cheer. Here are some alternative Christmas traditions that can extend beyond the typical scenario. Bring more to December than a severely smaller wallet and a gorge of Christmas presents!

· Advent. Light a candle for each new Sunday of December. You can find short, simple readings for each Sunday of Advent, to give festive food for thought to your family every new week. There are online sources as well as books and articles available in stores.

· Poetry or quotes. There are few of us who can't appreciate wise words put beautifully. Find quotes that you think each of your family members and friends would like. Write them a poem or find one that would speak to them quite uniquely. Then print or write it out, roll the paper into a scroll, tie a festive ribbon round it, and you will be amazed how welcoming and appreciated this gift can be!

· The twelve days of Christmas! Do something kind each day of Christmas, and write the deed on a note. Fold the paper up, and place it in a beautiful, festive box near the Christmas tree. As each family adds their selfless acts of the season, you will have a collection of kindnesses that you gave to the world around you for Christmas!

Here will put some light on what one should do in order to have a more specific occasion such as a Holiday Season gifting. Although I should mention that I have taken portions of ideas from a book and I find it worth sharing. Here is how it goes.

I started with an outline budget of what I wanted to spend on this occasion.

After I finished examining my expenditures for last year and created my new budget, I found a few less relevant categories that needed cutting out for this coming year. I especially found a great opportunity to save money in our "gift" category. See More

First, I made the decision that my theme for this year would be gift giving from my heart. Last year as I had Christmas packages spread around the living room and was trying to sort them for mailing, I found myself thinking like Scrooge. I decided that wasn't really a very good way to enter into the Holiday Season!

This year I started in January to get presents ready early. At this point, I might just be done by June. This also includes about 25 birthday gifts that I need to give throughout the year. It's not difficult to get into a bad mood when you are the one taking on the responsibility for buying, making, wrapping, and mailing so many gifts.

Trying to do this within a limited budget is all the more challenging. If money were no object, I could just buy 50 gift cards from the local Wal-M

9 Packaging Trends That Will ‘Connect’ You With Consumers

Today's consumer is a moving target. Choosing the right consumer and the right demographic to target is an important decision. Monitoring what is hot and what's not can dramatically influence a package design's success or failure. Package design is an integral way to connect with your customer. But do you clearly understand the needs and wants of these elusive markets?

The problem today is that one package may not satisfy the needs and requirements of all buyers.

There are many niche markets out there and each one requires specialized packaging. So if you are targeting one of those, do your research first. What works for one target market may not work for another. So….

1) Find out what package attributes appeal to the customer you are targeting. If it is a harried homemaker shopping for your product then convenience of use had better be at the top of the list. Those over 50 are seeking convenience too but issues like the size of print on the package and ease of use top their priority list. Make sure your package employs the characteristics that appeal to your target market.

2) Understand how the package will be used. Families no longer sit and eat a meal with everyone at the same time. There are special diet requirements or dieting in general in most households. It's not uncommon to serve different meals to different individuals. Package sizes will vary accordingly. EX: People who travel a lot buy sample or trial size packages because they are small and easy to deal with

3) Know your customers current buying trends. Several years ago, we went through the supersized phase. There are still a lot of supersized packages; however, buying trends are changing to smaller sizes

in general. To package smaller does not mean less profit, in many cases it means more. Consumers are willing to pay a premium for convenience, ease of use and a smaller quantity. Remember the three premium baking potatoes in a package cost almost the price of a 5 lb bag. If you live with just one other person, do you really need 5 lbs of potatoes?

4) Keep abreast of new packaging technologies. Creative, new products have the advantage in the marketing world even if their technology is not new. Several years ago, Metedent took the world by storm with the duel aperture dispensing mechanism. Recently hosts of new cleaning products have revived interest in this type of dispensing. Look for innovate ways to combine two products into one package.

5) Watch where people shop. There is a shift from traditional retailers to new and innovative store formats. The convenience store, once considered a low-end marketer, has now transitioned into store that provides premium products at a premium price. This evolved from the hurry up and go mindset demonstrated in today’s shopping habits. Recent studies are showing that consumers no longer make one big trip and stock up but make several trips a week and get just what is needed at the moment at the most easily accessible retail outlet.
EX: The grab and go cups of snack foods convenience stores are now offering. This category did not exist a couple of years ago.

6) Keep pace with “hot button” packaging issues. This includes legislation too. People do really care about the environment and the amount of excess packaging. There is a move afoot to expand the number of vegetable-based plastic materials used in food packaging. If packaging consumers give these products their endorsement, look for other new products to surface. Legislation can change packaging mandates overnight. There have been “bottle bills,” surcharges and bans that prohibit the use of certain packages. EX: Several fast food companies are test marketing corn-based plastic packaging materials. Ex: Ban on juice boxes in Maine and aerosol cans in Chicago.

7) Security in packaging is becoming increasingly important. This will continue to come into focus as more people become concerned about product integrity. One major security scare could force everyone to change their packaging methods immediately. Look for new tamper evident and security devices that can be incorporated into your packaging. Well, it’s that time of the year again! Just last week alone four of my clients were out sick with the flu, and at least another four friends suffered the same fate. Unfortunately, flu season isn’t over yet, and that means you stand a good chance of being exposed to the virus at some point.

If you have a hard time walking up stairs, or getting out of a chair without using your hands, your thighs are weak and you can strengthen them by pedaling stationary bicycle.

You become weak because you do not use your muscles, not because you age. You use your thigh muscles raise you up stairs, and you strengthen these muscles by pedaling, skating, and skiing, not by walking or running. If you wobble, stumble or walk with your feet wide apart, you probably have weak thigh muscles and can strengthen them on a stationary bike. Pedal every other day until your legs feel heavy or hurt or you feel tired. Then stop. You should be able to gradually work up to the point where you can ride for thirty minutes, three times a week. Then walking up stairs and raising yourself out of a chair should be as easy as pedaling a bike.

It is all about learning from the experience, you reflect. So you take a long, hurt look at the relationship and you decide how you want the next man to be different. Maybe you will try looking for someone who is the opposite of your previous partner, or maybe you are looking for someone to sweep you off your feet and make it all alright. Either way, things look pretty promising at the start, and then you start getting a whiff of the sty all over again.

You may enjoy playing the little woman, but resent being dismissed as a fluffy airhead. You may want your partner to be the masterful type, yet resent feeling controlled. The strengths you are looking for in a man, may be an attempt to compensate for your own shortcomings. You may want a man to propel you out of your dull, routine existence into a more exciting world.

One big problem women have with relationships, is that they work on their assumptions. Now, there is a vast gulf that separates intuition from assumptions. Intuition is that instantaneous, inexplicable nugget of information that lands in your lap. You can choose to act on it; or ignore it, at your peril. Assumptions are the expectations that you hold of your partner, irrespective of the evidence.

Assumptions are also curiously hardy creatures. They can be proved wrong time and time again. Yet, instead of questioning the assumption, the temptation is blame the person who has disappointed your expectation. You say: He should have known: He should have done¦ I should not have to spell it out.

It would all work perfectly if your partner had a degree in mind reading. Unfortunately, he does not. Neither do you, although you may sometimes act as if you did have. The next most accurate way to have a clear idea about what is going on is to ask questions, and keep asking.

Some of the questions you might ask yourself include:

What characteristics (not physical features) do I find attractive in him?

Are these the same characteristics I responded to in previous partners, at the start?

Does this person take charge of the relationships?

Are there niggles that I feel, but do not actually discuss with him?

Does he have a past history of people not appreciating him? Do you?

Does he overstep boundaries by foisting opinions on you?

Does your body go into stress mode around him, ever?

Do you feel that things are starting to move outside your control?

Is he moving events on faster than you might wish?

Can you incorporate this person comfortably into your existing lifestyle, or do you have to drop people to accommodate him?

Most of us seem to treat relationships like a hot tub at the end of a hard day’s work - something that looks good when we are feeling tired and grubby. So we dive straight in. We do not test the water temperature too carefully. We do not check for broken glass, baby alligators or other unforeseen hazards; because we assume they will not be there.

Generally, we exercise some thought and care when we purchase a household pet. Do you honestly take as much trouble to acquaint yourself with the needs and requirements of a prospective partner? Or do you simply plunge headfirst into the relationship? Is that another of your unhelpful patterns? Acknowledging it is the first step on the road to kicking it.
